Carmen "Welita" Salas was born in Riverside California to Ygnacio and Benigna Mesta. She moved to Tracy when she was 4 years old, in 1928. She attended South Side School and West Park Elementary. She married Joe Salas and together had 9 children. They established their home in Tracy and raised their family. Carmen "Welita" loved to crochet, listen to her music, and spend time with her family. Family was her most prized possession. She was known to her family as kind, gentle, encouraging, but most of all loving. She loved to listen to music and enjoyed dancing. She was the grandmother of over 179 grandkids, great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. She was a member of St. Bernard's Parish Church. She is proceeded in death by her husband Joe "Chema" Salas, 5 children: Louie, Danny, Lupe, Sammy, and Irene; along with her sister Pauline Celano, Joe Mesta, Carlos Mesta, Benny Mesta, and Philip Valdespino. Carmen was known to everyone as "Welita." Her beautiful, loving, and caring personality was luminous and her faith in God was her strength. We ask those in attendance please wear pink to services in honour of Welita.
